Limitations and Expectations

Limitations – setting limits, greatest amount allowed.

Expectations – belief something will happen, hope,

Setting the first, stops you from second.   Fear is what sets our limits.   Fear is what lowers our expectations.

I read a study that stated we change around the age of 9.   Prior to that we judge ourselves internally, after we judge externally.

That is why a child has no limits on their creativity. If they are satisfied with what they created, they’re not afraid to show it around.  They are fearless in their expression.  If they think they drew a pretty horse, it doesn’t matter if someone thinks its a dog.  They assume the person is stupid and can’t see correctly.  As we get older we begin to doubt ourselves and try to make our horses look like horses.

In all aspects of life if  we shut the door by judgement we make our life smaller.  Grow , leave your door open

The Guest House
by Rumi

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honourably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.

Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.
